2006: Richmond High School students are very active
in the fight against the CAHSEE. Morrison and Foerster, LLP files
suit against the exam, Valenzuela vs. California, on behalf of students
unable to graduate solely because of the exam. The case is later
settled.
West Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia approaches YT with space
to house a youth center in response to YT student campaign for youth
space. YT becomes a planning partner to develop the Center.

2007: The Oakland Unified School District adopts Meaningful Student Engagement Programming, in response to ODB campaign for a student union leadership model. YT founder and long time staff member Raquel Jimenez becomes first director of the program. Castlemont High School successfully campaigns for improved nutrition standards in cafeterias and on school sites. The new standards are adopted by the school board and apply district-wide.
